Montreal (Quebec) Canada, February 1, 2016:
OSSim Technologies, a leader in the development and commercialization of open surgery simulators, announced today that it is pursuing its expansion in the field of open surgery simulation by adding two new surgery applications, neurosurgery and spine surgery, to its list of virtual reality simulators.
OSSim Technologies has signed an exclusive worldwide license for the development and commercialization of a new neurosurgery application with RISC Software GmbH, a not-for-profit research organization held by the RISC Institute of the University of Linz in Austria. This application will be used to train residents at neurosurgical operations such as clipping surgery of intracranial aneurysms.
The neurosurgery simulator will come after the spinal surgery simulator (the Sim-STM) developed in collaboration with a world-renowned medical center in the Middle East. The National Research Council of Canada (NRC), under its IRAP program, is financially funding the research and development activities of this latest project that has been undertaken by OSSim Technologies at the beginning of 2015.
OSSim Technologies is already active on the global market with the Sim-KTM simulator, the first orthopedic open surgery simulator that has been successfully launched in 2015, and was introduced at the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital in January 2016. The company is supported by Inno-centre under the Canadian Accelerator and Incubator Program (CAIP) and the Canadian Economic Development (CED) Quebec program.
With these entirely new multiple procedure applications, OSSim Technologies intends to continue its R&D activities in the next few years and increase the number of applications on both hard tissue (Orthopedic) and soft tissue (Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology and related specialties).
